The Practice that Helps Me Embrace Hectic Days as a Parent

Nurturing Peace Amidst Chaos and the Art of Gentle Resilience

In the whirlwind of parenting, unexpected twists are as familiar as the morning routine. Recently, I found myself navigating the chaos of a day I had meticulously planned, only to watch it unravel before my eyes. It was the day of my last children’s yoga class of the year, a day that was supposed to be calm and fulfilling.

Plans changed abruptly, and I found myself in charge of picking up the kids and looking after them on the one day I’m not meant to. Rushing around became the order of the day, and I had to bring my kids to work with me – a scenario not unfamiliar but always a curveball in the juggle of responsibilities. The situation was stressful for reasons I won’t delve into, but amid the unexpected, I endeavoured to remain peaceful.

Bringing the kids into my work, luckily something feasible for me, turned out to be a delightful adventure. Despite the initial stress, I found joy in watching them engage with my world. The class, a mix of tweens and teens, embraced the playful change as we built a cozy den, moved like sleepy kittens, and danced to the uplifting tunes of Kira Willey. My 5 year old can’t wait to go back haha.

Yet, challenges persisted. Navigating the packed Luas (tram) with tired kids after dark and arriving home for a late dinner and bedtime ritual tested my commitment to remaining unruffled. But, I refused to let it morph into stress. Annoyance, yes. Stress, no.

In these moments, I leaned on a practice that has become my anchor – the art of gentle resilience. I allowed myself to acknowledge the frustration without letting it morph into an overwhelming force. Gentle with myself, I found solace in the knowledge that some days are bound to be hectic, and that’s perfectly okay.

This experience speaks to the heart of nurturing our nervous systems, both ours and our children’s. The ability to gracefully navigate unpredictability is a skill worth cultivating, not just for ourselves but for the little hearts looking up to us.

And speaking of nurturing, I’m thrilled to announce my upcoming challenge, ‘Reset’ – a family yoga challenge focusing on connection, a deeper understanding of the nervous system, and finding balance as we navigate the new year. Sign up will open on the 1st of January so don’t miss out!

Let’s embrace the journey of resetting together, creating a haven of calm amidst life’s beautiful chaos. Stay tuned for more details and let’s embark on this transformative journey together! 🌟🧘‍♂️💕

3 Cosy December Family Practices

December starts tomorrow and I feel like November was just this blur…it went by so quick. I went from feeling super prepared to feeling like everything was on top of me and I started getting really overwhelmed. Every time I made time to step onto my mat and do my self-care practices, I could feel…

Is it actually okay not be okay?

I’ve been sitting with something big the last few days and I realised a hidden belief I had for myself….. That it’s actually not okay to not be okay….. weird after sharing “It’s okay not to be okay.” for so long. But I realised that not being okay has usually equalled rejection and abonnement for…
